As the summer holidays near to an end and everyone’s bordering on boredom, here’s something to get children into the kitchen. This simple recipe came from Dave’s mum who used to work as a dinner lady in one of the primary schools in Enfield and this is one of the kitchen’s recipe. I’m sure I didn’t have anything like this in my school, not fair. The title isn’t wholly descriptive of the final product. This is chewy, sticky, really not very good for you at all, but totally delicious and very, very more-ish.
First of all, you need to melt golden syrup and butter in a big heavy pan. You can practicially feel your heart groan at the sight of this deliciousness.
Add milk powder and cocca powder and give it a good stir to get rid of any lumps.
Then add your cornflakes. The sauce goes a long, long way and you need more flakes than you think you do. It’s quite an effort to give everything a big stir after a while, but persevere. You want every flake to be covered in gooey gorgeousness. After that, add everything to a tin and let it set. Alternatively, add the mixture to some cupcake cases for perfect party food.
Easy as pie and goes very nicely with a cup of tea.
You Need:
6oz Cornflakes (although it’s probably more. When you’re adding it to the mixture, add it bit by bit and see how you go)
Dave bought a new camera last week and I’ve been playing around with it a lot (more on that later). I like it it so much that I’ve been buying cheap manual lenses off Ebay to experiment with. Above is one of my test shots with my manual 50mm prime. Came out not too shabby.
Clever designers SUCK UK have come up with the most useful item for cooks. This apron as all the conversion charts, roasting and boiling times you could ever need while in the kitchen. As someone who uses a lot of American recipies, I always have to fire up the laptop to see how much a stick of butter weights or what 450°F is in Celsius and now I can keep keep my dresses and laptop completely food free. Hurrah. You can buy it here.
This is Barry. He’s my first ever car. I never thought I could love a Ford Focus, but I do love Barry. I’ve not actually passed my driving test yet, but I can’t wait to take it out on a road trip. I think I promised my sisters we’d go to Wales.
The cherry tomatoes in the hanging basket are coming along nicely (all three of them!) Looks like this could be the first successful year of growing tomatoes (even if it is just three), I’ve never had much luck with them before.
I need to take more photos. I think I’m becoming a better photgrapher, but I’m just not practicing enough. A while back I attempted Project 365, where a photo everyday is taken. This proved too much commitment (getting married and being lazy got in the way) and when I started this blog started a photo almost every day tag, but that fell by the wayside too (and so did the rest of the blog. Lazy again. My bad). It’s all a huge shame, because I love taking photos.
Above is my 4000th upload to my Flickr account (it’s the roof of Liverpool St. Station in case you’re interested) and the re-start of taking photos more regulary. It’s recess at work so I have some time off soon (a whole five weeks! Wheee!) and I am determinded to get off my fat arse and be much more creative and a lot less lazy this summer. This all starts now. Wish me luck. I’m going to need it.
Hullo. I’m Mildew, sometimes known as Cornybeard, to a few Charlotte. I live in north London and have fun with compost and shoving random plants in pots. I used to have an allotment, but gave it up so I could go away on weekends and not feel guilty about neglecting it (I also let it [...]more →

@Bigalrick@fashionelf I promise I won't show off about NYC. Apart from maybe the restaurant we're booked in and then I'll shut up. - posted on 11/08/2010 11:18:02
@fashionelf that's mental. Made me feel a little sick reading it, but I may have to go and pay a visit (after seeing the Hershey's store) - posted on 11/08/2010 09:42:14
